giveaway: [bump] t shirt

July 31st, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie

bump_giveaway.jpgIn honor of the grand opening of LaLa Baby Boutique and my growing “bump” we are giving away a classic black [bump] t shirt for one lucky winner
What does [bump] stand for aside from an expanding belly. [bump] = baby under manufacturing process. And if you’ve got it flaunt it and show off that expanding belly with pride. This t shirt is super soft, stretchy, sexy and versatile.

I know how difficult it is to find maternity clothes that fit comfortable and feel and look good. Especially after spending my entire lunch hour trying to find a shirt that screams “pregnant” not “fat.” I’m so excited about this shirt I even got one for myself!

In order to participate in the contest go to LaLaBabyBoutique.com and register or simply place a comment including your email and name and we’ll enter you into the contest.

The black [bump]-tee we are giving away is available in L/XL, sexy cap sleeve, 100% yummy cotton, 30/S fine jersey. 3” side vents and bottom are hemmed.

how to be a toddler for a day

July 29th, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie

Okay so parenthood is exhausting, heck adulthood is no picnic whether you have kids or not. So wouldn’t it be great to throw all that responsibility out of the window and just be a toddler for day. If you want to jump on the revolution of “adult toddlership” now here are some great ways to get started.

During lunch order spaghetti and whenever you see the waitress pass by drop some on the floor. When she asks, “Is everything okay?” scream no and toss the spaghetti on the floor. Don’t forget to refuse to pay the check, toddler don’t have money anyway.

If you are a supervisor call a meeting and gather everything in the conference room. Turn the lights off and tell everyone to put their heads down because its nap time.

If your aren’t the boss and your called in to a meeting to write notes, use a RED crayon and take notes on the wall.

When you are called into the office after the “crayon incident” and your boss starts to reprimand you, pout and then scream, “No, No, No!” Next toss yourself on the ground and refuse to get up until you get a cookie.

When you are standing in line waiting for the restroom, get on your hands and knees and check to see who is in the stall you are waiting on. If they don’t get out immediately just ask, “Mommy are you done yet?”

During your fifteen minute break go to the park and slide down the slide, dig your hands into the sand and poor it over your head or jump in a swing. Refuse to leave until someone offers you another cookie.

Finally, wake up because it was only a dream. Even though toddlers are can be care free one minute, stubborn the next, then crazy silly the minute after they do grow out if for a reason. Who could keep up that kind of stamina for longer than a couple of years? Toddlerhood is an interesting and exciting stage in life, but I wouldn’t want to relive those years, besides who’s going to pay my mortgage if I do.

why wear your baby?

July 28th, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie

Baby wearing has a history in almost all cultures and dates back; well farther than I would know. It’s the practice of holding your baby close and carrying him or her in a carrier or sling. It wasn’t all that popular when I was growing up, people tended to think holding your baby would “spoil” them. But according to Dr. Sears, it is possible to spoil your baby. In fact, meeting a newborn’s needs to be calmed, coddled and fed in a predictable manner help her feel secure and build trust.

It’s a good thing baby wearing is becoming popular again and so many people, books and websites are advocating its use. I found this practice very helpful when my first daughter was born and I imagine I will use my sling and carrier even more frequently when my baby is born. Especially, since I will still need to keep up with my very active 2 year-old.

My daughter was less than 6 lbs when she was born so the pouch style sling was the best thing for her. I then moved a baby carrier as she got older. I actually can’t wait to get the chance to use them again.

If you are still unsure if baby wearing is for you, check out the top five reasons why you should, by Laura Simeon, MA, MLIS.

  1. Wearing a baby is convenient – Using a sling gives you the freedom to walk around freely and easily maneuver through crowds and narrow aisles.
  2. Wearing a baby promotes physical development – When a baby sits this close to his mother he is tune with her rhythm of breathing, the sound of her heartbeat and even her basic movements, this stimulation helps his own physical responses
  3. Babies worn in slings are happier – Studies have shown that the more babes are held, the less they tend to cry and fuss.
  4. Baby-wearing is healthy for you – It can be a challenge to get some exercise when you just had a baby. Carrying your baby around with you for the most of the day, taking a brisk walk, cleaning the house or whatever gives you the dual benefit of exercising and “weight-lifting.”

If you are ready to start wearing your baby, check out what we have available at LaLaBabyboutique.com.

Baby KtanBaby K’tan Sling – A unique, innovative & stylish carrier that is a cross between a sling and a more structured front baby carrier. Check out our selection.

belle_carrier.jpgBelle Baby Carrier – A comfortable and easily adjustable carrier with a Five-Point Support System, which transfers your baby’s weight directly to your hips and not your back. Available now, check out the available options.

Still can’t decide, here are five more reasons why you should.

  1. Baby-wearing helps you and your baby communicate with each other
  2. Slings are a bonding tool for fathers, grandparents, and other caregivers
  3. Slings are a safe place for a child to be
  4. Slings are economical and easy to travel with
  5. Baby-wearing is fun

Since I am just starting to venture out into the world of mompreneurship, I thought I would share with everyone some helpful websites and books I found along the way.

I do have to give credit one particular book written by Kim Kiyosaki, “Rich Woman: A Book on Investing for Women.” I love this book, because it motivates you and inspires women to be financially independent regardless of their financial background or current job situation. stop, drop, and backup

July 19th, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie

I had my first big business scare today and learned a good lesson in the process. Always, always have a backup, a backup business plan, a backup of your website, a backup of your database, a backup of everything.

Today while I was doing the deed at jury duty, I forked over the $12 for internet access only to discover my entire site, meaning my entire business was erased. I’ll that was displaying when I typed in my URL was a big error message, wp-config.php can not be found. For anyone who knows, that is a bad thing. I called my hosting provider and discovered that his server was corrupted and all of the SQL databases (one being my store) were completely gone. Erased.

Devastated and crushed are they best words to describe how I was feeling. That is way too much stress for a pregnant woman. How would I ever be able to start over? Was my business over before it ever began? I mean it was just two days ago that I officially announced the store was open for business on the blog and two days later it was over?

It was my husband who finally saved the day, well partially at least. I lost about a months worth of work. All of my blogs for the past two months have been erased.

So I did a Google search and was able to recover almost all of my blogs from cache. Thank goodness.

But the store will be temporarily on hold until I can get everything up and running again.

So the moral of the story, you never know when things can go kaput so have a backup plan for everything.

what is a mompreneur?

July 6th, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie

Definition: A female business owner who is actively balancing the roll of mom and the role of entrepreneur.

After two years of pondering the concepts, talking myself in and out of ideas and convincing myself I just don’t have time, I am finally launching my own business and jumping into Mompreneurship!

My first venture is an online baby boutique. LaLaBabyBoutique.com – is a website dedicated to provide fashion-forward something more than the basic pink and blue and bring style and fun into motherhood. We carry cute baby t shirts, funny pregnancy t shirts, mommy t shirts, stylish diaper bags, stylish seat covers and baby slings and carriers.
I am so excited that I’ll be finally launching the website this month.

Check it out www.lalababyboutique.com.

I have to credit the book by Rich Woman: A book on investing for women by Kim Kiyosaki with helping me take the plunge. The statistics in the book are startling and I certainly don’t want to be in the predicaments she mentions. I have even recommended the book and shared it with many of my girlfriends.
