5 things you must have in your diaper bag
August 31st, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie
When we were younger we had the backpack, as we got older and much cooler it was the purse then in college it was the backpack and purse. Then we moved up to the briefcase for work. Now with a baby it’s the diaper bag. And picking one out that fits your needs can be a daunting task. After all just like your baby they to come in all sizes, shapes and colors. But once you select the perfect bag, what the heck goes inside? We have a list of the 5 things you shouldn’t leave home with out and some other items for piece of mind.
- The one thing never to forget is the diapers; you certainly don’t want to have an “Oops” moment with out a fresh diaper around.
- A changing pad is a must, to help keep your baby clean for all the diaper changing
- Wipes and hand cleaner
- Baby food and/or bottles
- A couple of bibs and burp clothes
Even though following is not in the top 5, they certainly deserve honorable mention. Always keep an emergency phone list, medicine and a thermometer in the diaper bag in case of emergencies. If your child uses one a couple of extra pacifiers, you would be amazed about how many times a baby can drop a paci. And don’t forget a special toy for your child’s entertainment.
If you are still looking for the perfect diaper bag, check out the selection of hip and cool diaper bags at LalaBabyBoutique.com. We carry a wide variety of stylish brands such as Baby Kaed, Loom, Holy Aiken, Amy Michelle, Dad Gear, and many more. Shop LalaBabyBoutique.com diaper bags now!

Mompreneur Interview: Loom

Mompreneur: Johanna Leestma La Fleur
Company: Loom
What inspired you to launch your product line?
Well before I had children I had many friends who had babies and couldn’t find rugged, modern, attractive diaper bags – that didn’t have baby teddy beards on them etc. They were young professional people and first time parents who didn’t want to look like they were carrying a diaper bag.
The opportunity was ripe for reinventing the bag/gear category for new parents – so I dove in! First, by launching the bag company Fleurville, then after selling that venture launching Loom.
What did you do before becoming a Mompreneur?
I was a business development manager working on large corporate software/web projects in San Francisco.
Tell us about your products.
The Loom collection (www.loomlife.com) is comprised of 8 different products that modern design conscious parents can ‘Graduate’ thru as their needs, and their families evolve: The Beginner Diaper Bag – (The Marsupial), The Bandicot Backpack Diaper Bag for parents of toddlers, The Go Tote series for traveling and beach/park excursions, the Zoom Kit stroller bag, and canvas Pop! Bins for home storage of toys, shoes and laundry.

What is the most rewarding part of being a Mompreneur?
Being able to have dedicated family time with my children and husband and have creative/intellectual pursuits that challenge me professionally. I’m a lucky woman in deed.
Do you have any advice for someone that wants to mom’s who are interested in becoming entrepreneurs?

go green with these organic tees for baby

Blirt it out with an adorable and educational Blirt tee for your infant or toddler? And help save the earth at the same time. Blirt’s philosophy is to introduce kids to the playfulness of the English language as early as possible. The figures on the tees are interpretation of the strong and unique character traits that children embody.
They have a fish out of water tee that represents the times when children may not fit it perfectly. And that’s okay because that’s what makes everyone unique. The shirt symbolizes freedom to be different and not be to be afraid.
You can purchase the fist out of water tee at LaLaBabyBoutique.com.
Blirt also has a bull in china shop tee. A figure of speech born over three years ago in London, England that came about with a group of defiant bulls roamed into a china shop and left no teacup sparred. The perfect tee for a budding deconstructionists. Get it now at LalaBabBoutique.com

my two minute rant!
August 23rd, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie
Why do some people feel it’s necessary to comment on the size of your stomach why you are pregnant? Why is it so hard to find maternity shirts that hug your curves instead of exaggerate them?
I was having a good day today even growing comfortable with my ever expanding belly. Happy that the size of my belly almost matches how far along I am. I went through the entire day wonderfully. No comments, even though I am wearing one of those maternity shirts. The kind that scream I’m pregnant, that make you look like your closer to having a baby then growing one.
Everything was great until I picked up my daughter at daycare. First, it was the psychologist, “Are you sure you’re due in December?” I politely laugh it off. After all I can excuse him since he is a man. But then he is a psychologist and should no better. Then it was one of the mother’s, “Almost there?” I again say politely, “No, not yet.” And then my favorite of all, “Wow, you sure there aren’t two in there?”
What are you really supposed to say after that? I mean this is another mother who no doubt had people making the same comments to her at some point. Is it the slip of the tongue? Do people just forget what it’s like?
My 2 minutes are up.

What inspired you to launch your product line?
When I got pregnant with my daughter Ilan, there was an awkward yet exciting stage of pregnancy when no one could tell I was pregnant except me and as my body changed I wanted to scream to everyone that stared and were too afraid to ask “I’m not fat [bump] on board”. picky eating, is it hereditary?
August 19th, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie
I know for a fact I was a picky eater as a child, I still am today. Sure my tastes have expanded but I still have a limited amount of choices to choose from. I can only imagine how difficult I was to satisfy.
I remember (or I was told) that I would pick out the peas and carrots out of fried rice. I remember my dad having to stand in line at McDonald’s or any similar fast food restaurant explaining he needs to have the hamburger plan, yes that means no ketchup, pickles, not even cheese. For some reason it took forever to get a fresh plan hamburger. But it didn’t stop with just eating out I was picky at home as well. In fact, as I grew older I started to take a nap right around dinner time just to avoid the meal at hand. Usually by the time I woke up the kitchen would be clean and I would be able to select my choice for dinner. I did anything and everything to avoid eating things I didn’t like. Yes I will admit it, I did the “food in napkin” trick and then tossed in into the bathroom toilet. It worked for years. I’m surprised the napkins filled with liver and vegetables never clogged the toilet.
Did my parents ever find out? I have no idea. But they never let on that they knew.
As you can imagine as everyone predicts you will indeed have a child just like you or sometimes worse, to get you back for all the trouble you caused your own parents. I would definitely have to say my daughter’s picky habits are indeed worse and indeed misunderstood. I mean why on earth would anyone want to refuse the sweet taste of delicious fruit? Yes, she hates the majority of vegetables but that fact that she denies herself the delicate and juicy taste of fruit is absurd, and something I clearly can not understand.
I know its normal behavior for a toddler to refuse to eat some foods or even only eat one particular food. Sometimes they will eat non stop other days you can’t even get a bite in. She is establishing her independence and I am happy about that. I know its okay for her to miss a meal on occasion and that it’s okay if she doesn’t have a well rounded diet. But why the fruit?
So as I was contemplating on what to do I came across a couple of sites that are helpful for parents with picky eaters.
Cooking for Kids: Picky Eaters
Picky eating is a manageable stage. We’ve pulled together a set of recipes that should please the choosiest child, and whenever possible, we selected healthful versions of these dishes so when they do eat, they’ll be well nourished…
How to get your toddler to eat more healthy food
Eating well gives your toddler the energy he needs to learn and grow. And it’ll help him stay healthy, maintain a healthy weight, and establish good lifelong eating habits. Here are some ways to make nutritious food the most appealing choice…
Toddler Diets and Picky Eaters
Getting your toddler to eat has become a power struggle and you often find yourself having to fight him to eat healthy. Even when you don’t give him any snacks, he often only eats a few bites of his lunch and dinner. You are at your wits’ end and have begun to dread meal times.
22 weeks pregnant: i’m beginning to hate summer
August 18th, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie
I’m finally past the ½ way mark, and starting the countdown. I know, I know I have plenty of weeks ahead of me, but time is flying by.
The heat here has been horrendous, last week it topped at 105 which is hot for the San Fernando Valley. I keep asking myself, “Why do I live in the Valley?” This summer heat is making me want to reconsider. For those of you that don’t know the area, the Valley is about 15 miles, away from the cool temperatures of Santa Monica one way and Malibu the other. Everybody always says being pregnant during summer was more difficult and now I know why first hand.
I even had to toss all of my pregnancy clothes from the last time (not really complaining since I do love buying clothes) since they are mostly winter type clothes and anything else was just an emergency buy to take me through the last couple of weeks. Looking at the clothes now, I have to question my sense of style back then. I just have one word for it, “Wow.”
Luckily I have been able to find some really comfortable and cool t-shirts to wear through this go around. If you haven’t yet you have to check out the [bump] t-shirts, I bought one a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love it. They are soft and comfortable and best of all form fitting so they hug those pregnancy curves. I received compliments each time I wear it. You can purchase the [bump] t-shirts at LaLaBabyBoutique.com. We are even giving away the original black t-shirt in September all you have to do is register.
My most recent purchase is a t-shirt I bought from 2chix.com. I bought the “Just Kicking” t-shirt in brown. I received a bunch of compliments on this t-shirt as well. It is very comfortable and hugs the baby bump just as nicely. You can purchase the 2chix.com t-shirt direct at www.2chix.com.
