5 reasons you should try cloth diapers
September 20th, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie
I never even considered using cloth diapers until I spent two days at the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas. There were several different manufactures and various packages. I was amazed at how different cloth diapers are now and how simple they seem to be.
When my sister had her first child almost 15 years ago she used cloth diapers. She used a diaper service back then; needless to say it didn’t last long. So when I had my daughter the thought never crossed my mind.
Now as I prepare for the birth of my second child I am strongly considering giving cloth diapers a shot. So I compiled a list of five reasons why I am considering cloth diapers and why you should too.
- Cloth diapers are healthy for your baby –
Did you know there is a toxic chemical present in disposable diapers, called Dioxin. The chemical in various forms has been shown to cause cancer, birth defects, and skin disease. This toxic chemical is a by-product of the paper-bleaching process used in manufacturing disposable diapers so it’s possible that trace quantities may exist in the diapers themselves. - Cloth diapers are better for the environment –
Did you know disposable diapers are the 3rd largest single product filling up the nations landfills. I guess they aren’t as “disposable” as they claim. - Cloth diapers are just as convenient –
These aren’t your mothers’ cloth and pen diapers. Cloth diapers now are fitted with elastic in the legs and back area; they have easy hook and loop closures and some even have snaps. You can choose from different fabrics, colors, sizes, absorbency levels. You are sure to find the diaper that fits your needs. - Cloth diapers are less expensive –
Cloth diapers cost about ½ the price of disposables and don’t forget about the additional cost of the trash bags you would need to dispose of them. - Cloth diapers are multifunctional –
They can be used as changing pads, burp cloths, and spill cleanups for years to come.
If you decide to try cloth diapers or have already made the switch please let us know how you like them and what brand you decided to use. Our baby is due in December so we will let you know how they worked out for us.

are your hands clean?
September 18th, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie
Are your hands clean? We all wonder it. But let’s face it; it’s not always the easiest question to ask. Some might take it as an insult, some might even lie, others (mostly mother’s themselves) would appreciate your concern and back off accordingly.
So when I found this t-shirt by DivasNBabes, I had to offer it on my online store. It’s the easy way out of the question, Are your hands clean? I can’t wait to take this first for a test run when my son is born.
If you are tired of asking, just get this baby t-shirt by DivasNBabes. The “Are your hands clean?” t-shirt is available in 3-6 months, 12-18 months and 18-24 months. Made with soft, comfortable 100% cotton. Short sleeve. White only.

applebee’s targeted by angry nursing moms
September 16th, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie
“Family restaurant chain Applebee’s says its goal is to provide a great dining experience for all.
But some women say the courtesy doesn’t extend to them as breast-feeding mothers - and they’re angry about it.
Outraged by an incident at a Lexington, Ky., Applebee’s in June - when a mother of eight was told to cover her 7-month-old with a blanket while he was nursing - the women have organized a protest that will kick off today at Applebee’s locations across the country, including at the company restaurant in Chatsworth.”
This insert is from an article written one of the great writers at the Los Angeles Daily Newspaper where I work. To read the complete article click here.
After the article was posted they allowed for people to comment on the blog. I have to say I was shocked by some of the responses. Check out some of the reader comments here.
My personal opinion is you should feed your baby where you feel comfortable, who cares what other people think. Breast feeding is natural and a part of life. I tried breast feeding my first child, but I just wasn’t producing enough to feed her. Who knows, maybe it will be different this time around.
my online baby boutique is more than just a hobby

So as I mentioned in an earlier post I spent the weekend at the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas. I am so glad I made the trip because it was 110% worth it. There are so many amazing products out there for kids and it’s great to know companies are finally listening to moms and getting them what they need to make life more manageable.
If you have ever been to the Las Vegas Convention Center, the expo took up two floors of the north hall and I wasn’t even able to finish browsing during the two days I was there. I even ran out of business cards. A note to everyone, always bring an entire box of business cards with you, because even though you think you brought enough you will most likely run out. I had to start rationing out my cards by the second day, mid-afternoon.
This is the first year the expo has opened its doors to the online boutique. I am so glad they did. Not every designer was receptive to online retailers which I found a little surprising.

Anyway more to come on the cool products that I found, the one’s I will be reviewing and the others I will start carrying at the boutique, LaLaBabyBoutique.com.

The Baby K’tan Baby Carrier is a new and innovative soft baby carrier that is a cross between a sling and a more structured front carrier, providing the positions and benefits of both. There is no other carrier available like it.
Parents or caregivers can comfortably carry infants and toddlers (from birth to 3+ years old) in seven different positions, (normally four different carries are needed to encompass these 7 positions), and create an ideal environment for premature babies and babies with special needs.
The Baby K’tan has added security and back support as compared to the traditional sling, and added comfort and ease of use as compared to the traditional front carrier. Our unique design offers the wearer a 100% cotton carrier with NO buckles, snaps, rings or hardware, that otherwise make baby wearing complicated and uncomfortable. Our patent pending lumbar support band offers the wearer extra back support and makes it easy to adjust baby or toddler’s weight distribution on both shoulders.
