Tell us about yourself.

I am 32 year-old stay-at-home mom who lives in Bella Vista, Arkansas. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a Sociology degree. I worked in Madison for several years after I graduated and then moved to St. Louis for work. I met my husband at work and we have been married for five years. We relocated to Bella Vista about two years ago where we hope to raise our family. I have a two year old son and hope to have at least one more child in the next couple of years.

Where do you get all your idea for Zoe & Sprout?

The ideas for Zoe & Sprout designs come from the funny situations I encounter each day as a mom, things going on in popular culture, and suggestions from friends and customers. I don’t really have a formula for developing my ideas – a lot of my best designs come to me in the middle of the night.

What is your ideal workday like?

Ideally I can wake up an hour or two before my son and crank out some work before he even wakes. Then we will have breakfast together and do an activity like the library or park. When he goes down for a nap I work some more. Then if I am done I close up shop for the day, if not I can get a bit more done when my husband gets home.

popular bumbo baby seat recalled over safety

October 28th, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie

If you have one of the popular Bumbo seats, be careful where you are using it. It was originally advertised as the seat that you would be able to use anywhere including on tables, countertops, and other elevated surfaces. That is until now. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has reported that they have received more than several reports of young children falling out of the Bumbo Baby Sitter seat, including skull fractures. The incidents can occur when young children arch their backs and flip out the Bumbo seat and fall on to the floor.

As a precaution a new Warning Label will be placed on the seats urging parents to never use on any elevated surfaces.

I used my Bumbo seat with my daughter when she was younger and plan on using it with my son. I never did feel comfortable with placing it on the table or elevated surfaces anyway to I’ll be keeping the Bumbo Seat around.

For more information on Bumbo safety, visit their website www.bumbosafety.com.

only 53 days left of being a single child

I’m starting to feel a little guilty about having a second baby, constantly wondering if my daughter will think of him as a replacement. How will she adjust? Will she revert back to being a “baby”? She has come so far, her vocabulary is constantly growing and she loves to do everything on her own. Except for using the potty, but that is an entirely different story.

I am doing my best to prepare her for the baby; we talk about him all the time and call him by name. We just put his crib up over the weekend and we are starting to pull out all of Myla’s old toys and gear.

She likes to climb into the new baby’s crib, and I remind her that it’s for the baby and she has a great big girl bed in the other room. I hoping she will get used to seeing her old things around and will bored with them by the time the baby comes.

Is she ready to be a big sister? I guess I won’t no for sure. But I’m hoping it’s a smooth transition and she understands that the baby is an extension of the family and is no way a replacement.

Until then though I plan on enjoying the time I have with my daughter and showing her I love her the best way I can.

32 weeks: and counting…

October 26th, 2007 / No Comments » / by S. Elie

Wow I can’t believe the last time I wrote about my pregnancy was 10 weeks ago. Time is zooming by and we can now “guestimate” that little junior will be here in 4 to 8 weeks. Are we ready?

Not even close.

But I still can’t wait for his arrival.

I have to say this time around has been a lot different then with my first. I monitored my weight religiously with my daughter and was almost in tears at every doctor’s appointment. This time I haven’t stepped on the scale once at home and I don’t even look when I am at the doctor’s office. Though I have a lapse and will ask the doctor comes in to see me, can’t help it. Just like I can’t help that the baby loves sweets and seems to be craving them all the time. Who am I to deny him, right?

Last time I spent hours scouring over the pages of babycenter.com, this time I’ve only been on once or twice. And don’t forget the magazines, my god I had every pregnancy magazine for every month I was pregnant. This time I just flip through them at the counter.

It certainly is different the second time around, but the end result is just as special. I can’t wait for my son to come into this world and join our family.

mompreneur interview: the boy and girl gender diet plans

Tell us about The Boy and Girl Gender Diet Plans

I am a mom, nurse, and owner of www.boygirldiet.com. I specialize in fertility and reproductive nursing, specifically gender selection. Through my years of practice, it was my job to provide education and support to individuals, couples, and families regarding fertility, pregnancy, prenatal health and gender selection options.

Where do you get your idea?

Patients would always ask me about the influence of diet and the effects it has on gender. Out of the several natural gender selection methods that were used over decades, the only method, proven through clinical research, is sex selection by ionic equilibrium, i.e. modification of diet before pregnancy.

The internet is swarmed with diet “guidelines” or lists of foods to avoid to have a baby boy or girl. These lists and diet tips were certainly not sufficient information to properly alter the body chemistry necessary to influence gender. Consequently, for the next three years, we proceeded to explore theories, journal articles, and case studies. Through research, we created detailed meal plans that were designed to increase the likelihood of conceiving a baby with the gender of one’s preferred choice. The Boy and Girl Gender Diet Plans are based on a framework of clinical research (based on over 7,000 participants) which supports the notion of altering a woman’s diet, in an attempt to effectively achieve conceiving a baby with the gender of her preference.

the potty-training chronicles, part I

October 7th, 2007 / 1 Comment » / by S. Elie

I can’t believe my daughter is already 28 months old, time is sure flying by. Lately, it feels like lightning speed with the new baby coming soon. So we have finally decided to dedicate some serious time to potty training. Our goal is to have her successfully potty trained by December right before the baby comes. I so want to avoid having two children in diapers. Cross your fingers everyone, please!

I think she is finally prepared, we have completely transitioned to pull ups and she is able to pull them on and off on her own. We have watched the “Elmo’s Goes Potty” DVD more times than I can count and read the “Once upon a Potty” book to her every night for the past two weeks. She understands the concept of the toilet; we just have to convince her to actually go. We even received a couple of helpful tools while at the ABC Expo in Las Vegas last month. We have a Dora the Explorer potty training rewards chart, the Once upon a Potty, potty and some other special treats that make the toilet water change color.

October 4th, 2007 / 1 Comment » / by S. Elie

As you all know we attended the ABC Kids Expo last month and I still haven’t gone through all the flyers and product info I received. But I did want to tell you about some amazing safety products that every parent should consider purchasing. Checkout them out and let me know if you plan on purchasing any of them for yourself. I know I am!

Me4Kids (www.me4kids.com)
I meant to pick one of these up at the expo, but by the time we got back to booth they were all gone. The medibag is the “original” kid friendly first aid kit perfect for home use.
