potty training: day 3
March 31st, 2008 / No Comments » / by S. Elie
Myla woke up in a wet pull up. We decided to make the nights easier to put her in a pull up when she sleeps at night. I know some people say it can confuse the child, but with a newborn in the house, it makes sleep a little bit easier for everyone.
We sat and sat and sat and sat, just like Prudence in the Once Upon a Potty Book, which my daughter practically knows by heart.
potty training: day 2

We made it through another day of potty training. Here’s the score card. 1 – poop in the potty (Congrats Myla!) and 3 – tinkles on the carpet (time to start looking for a carpet cleaner!).
We spent the entire day indoors working on potty training. We slipped on the underwear in the morning and timed potty breaks one hour apart. Today, she did better with the drinking, apple juice and water all day long. She was still a little bit sick and cranky so we had to entertain her while on the potty. I don’t know how many times we sang the ABC’s, Itsy Bitsy Spider and Patty Cake.
potty training: day 1

We elected to start potty training today, since we kept our daughter home due to her cold. Probably not the best timing but it gives us three days before she needs to go back to school.
We woke up in the morning and told her that we were out of pull-ups and needed to put on underwear. She wanted to wear princess underwear, the first I have ever heard of this! I bought Elmo underwear, Dora underwear, and some training underwear. But today, she decides princess is the way to go. Oh well I had to go to Target anyway.
I promised her if she kept the training underwear on, then I will go get her princess underwear. So I packed up my son to ship him off to daycare, I didn’t want him to catch her cold (as I type this now I think he got it anyway).

I can’t believe he is already three months and already able to sit in the Bumbo seat. He didn’t even protest about the purple color! More updates to come soon of him and his 2 year old sister.
Potty-Training Update:
Definitely check back this weekend, we are going COLD TURKEY and have tossed out the pull-ups in exchange for some really cute princess underwear. Wish us luck and cross your fingers that we can keep the floor dry!

5 creative toilet training tips
March 12th, 2008 / 1 Comment » / by S. Elie
My daughter is 2 ½ years old and we are having a hard time getting her potty trained. We were getting close, but the birth of my son has made her revert. “Back to the drawing board,” we go.
The first tip is actually my own. Make sure your child is ready to transition. Does she tell you when she needs to go?
Number One: Sing
There is a wonder potty training CD called Potty Animal: Funny Songs About Potty Training. One of the songs created by Dr Sonna is, “I Need My Pot.” And it goes a little something like this.
I Need My Pot
I just drank some water.
There’s no doubt,
Right below my tummy
It’s hiding out.
I need my pot.
Hey, lookie there!
It’s coming out!
Number Two: Dance
Dance your way to the potty with your child, it will help calm your baby and give them a chance to show off their dance moves.

As I write this post I have one hand on my son and one on the computer, trying to find the perfect balance between work and motherhood is frustrating and challenging. While there is no manual or magic formula to creating the perfect balance Lisa Druxman, at entrepreneur.com has com up with 10 tips for balancing work and motherhood.
