the day her poop got stuck, throw out the cheese

May 20th, 2008 / 1 Comment » / by S. Elie

Okay so when she’s 15 years old, she’ll probably hate me for writing this post. But when she’s 15 it will be so far back in the archives she’ll never see it!

It started with cheese, but ended with a scream! I was on a video chat with my parents showing them how much the kids have grown when my daughter yelled out a scream I have never heard. Immediately I sign off with the parents and go see what was wrong. I get to the bathroom and it was very obvious she had pooped. I check the toilet there is nothing there. Her poop was stuck. I had no idea what to do, she’s screaming and in some serious distress. We can only imagine the pain, but convincing a 2 year old that it will go away if she pushes it out is next to impossible.

the metromama wrap, my new best friend

May 20th, 2008 / No Comments » / by S. Elie

As I mentioned before I wasn’t recently laid off from my job. To save some money (and my sanity) we put our 3 year old daughter back into daycare while I keep my son at home while searching for new employment.

I love getting the chance to spend more time with him, but it is difficult juggling the job search, tending to his needs and working on my online baby boutique LaLa Baby Boutique. And it doesn’t help that he has decided he no longer needs naps. I have tried the swing, walking him, rocking him, everything. Just when I think he’s out, I’ll lay him down and he’ll open his eyes wide and flash me a big smile. “Just Kidding, Mommy!”

After two days of this defiant behavior I decided to pull out my MetroMama baby wrap and it worked like a charm. He can’t resist the coziness of the wrap and falls asleep in an instant. We can finally get the best out of both worlds, “working cuddle time” Thank you MetroMama for making such a great product! I can finally work and cuddle at the same and be fashionable too!

I have the chocolate dragon bling baby wrap and I can’t live work without it. Get yours today! Shop the MetroMama baby wraps now!

and the winner is cheyenne

I know. I know. This is old news, but for those that have never had the chance to experience I Know my Kids a Star, here’s a recap. Thank you, TiVo.

This is the final episode and Cheyenne, Mckenzie and Mary Jo are the last one’s standing. Who will the winner? My vote is for Mary Jo but let’s be honest this show isn’t voting for the most talented kid. This show is voting for the parent who can handle Hollywood the most. Based on that I’m sure Mary Jo will be going home.

They just sent Mary Jo and Pam home, and what does mom say on the road back home, “You’re acting coach is fired, you vocal coach is fired and maybe your dancing instructor.” I wish I could buy Mary Jo the Donald Trump doll so she can tell her mom, “You’re fired!”

a true “home alone” moment

May 15th, 2008 / No Comments » / by S. Elie

We all remember cute Macaulay Culkin when he got left behind when the family rushes out of the house for a long Christmas vacation. I wasn’t a parent back then, but I could not imagine forgetting a child. You can lose your purse, drop your keys, or even forget your plane ticket. But to forget an actual “being” that doesn’t seem possible to me.

However that wasn’t the case for a family in Vancouver. A 23-month old boy was left in the Vancouver airport and the parents had no idea until they were contacted at the next leg of the flight by authorities.

According to the boy’s father, the mix-up occurred Monday as he, his wife and two grandparents of the child were scrambling between their arrival in Canada and a connecting flight to Winnipeg on Air Canada. They were so late they had to run for the terminal. The adults were seated in different parts of the plane so they all thought the other had the baby.

I guess mom was missing that “I’m forgetting something” instinct that Catherine O’Hara had during Home Alone.

All is well with the young boy and he was successfully reunited with his family.

what, gigi’s not ready for hollywood?

I am scared to admit it but I am actually addicted to, I Know My Kids a Star. I am sickened and drawn to the show at the same time. I can’t believe these upcoming stage mamas and the antics they are using to get ahead of the game. Can we say trailer trash meets ghetto fabulous? These caddy women will do anything to bring down another team.

Last night’s episode was no different. During a parent radio interview we learned that Pam ex-husband used to wear dresses, Helene lives with her mother and Shannon has no idea what the casting coach is. I wonder how many of these moms would “sacrifice” to make there kid the next star.

Gigi was out of control this episode. I hope she realizes that is her fault they got kicked off the show.

The season finale is next week so tune in and find out who will be the next child star!

downsizing has it happened to you

May 6th, 2008 / No Comments » / by S. Elie

Last Thursday was my last day at the job; I was told by the new Vice President that my position has been eliminated and he will no longer need my services. It seems to me that they bring new executives in, just so they can lay people off with out getting emotionally involved.

I’ve been laid off before during the dot com bust, but this one hurt a little bit more. I’ve worked for the company for over three years and worked myself up to management level.

I think what hurt the most was how it went down, I met with the new VP one day, where he told me he didn’t have a need for a project manager but he does have a senior developer position available. I was okay with that, it wasn’t the direction I really wanted to go, but I need to food on the table, so it is what it is.

Then a couple of days later I’m told by one of my developers that he accepted the senior developer position, the same position that was offered to me. WHAT!

I had to confront the new Vice President myself to find out what was going on, then I had to wait the entire day for them to lay me off. It was upsetting and frustrating. I felt betrayed; I mean you could’ve told me that you were giving the position to someone else. I mean I had been with the company for over three years, I would think that would have warranted some kind of respect.

What’s done is done. I’m probably better off without them anyway.

out in la: smooch baby boutique

If you are just as addicted to Keeping up with the Khardasians as I am, then you know about their two boutiques in Calabasas. I think I am attracted to the show because it amazes me how free the girls are to express themselves. Even though some of the topics maybe a little hard to take with your parents in the room, they are lucky to have the kind of relationship where they are free to talk, well freely.

So after seeing their baby boutique Smooch on the show, I decided this was something I had to see for myself. On my lunch break I dashed over to Calabasas to check it out. It’s not easiest place to find and the parking isn’t the greatest but none the less I was able to do both.

Are you trying to track down a parent who’s never been part of your life? Is your single parent trying to date again for the first time, or considering getting married, changing everything? If you’re being raised by a single parent or a single parent yourself, MTV wants to hear from you.
