The past couple of days I have been blogging about plans for the New Year and the CHANGES I plan on making to improve my way of life. So far I’ve created my not a New Year resolution, a life resolution and my not-to-do list for 2009. Now it’s time to tackle my virtual identity after all it is where I spend the majority of my day.

So I started off by cleaning out my Gmail account. I have all of my email forwarding over to Gmail so I can easily access all of my business mail when I’m away from my personal computer. It was an easy clean up since most of the emails were duplicates. Next I tackled my outlook in box, which has grown out of control. I had over 2000 emails in my spam folder alone and that was just 5 months of email! Because I didn’t want to go through every email in my Outlook I decided to just archive the year so it can be easily accessed at a moments notice.

mompreneur interview: josephine geraci

December 30th, 2008 / No Comments » / by S. Elie

glovieslogoMompreneur: Josephine Geraci
Company: My Mom Knows Best, Inc.
Website: www.glovies.com

My Mom Knows Best, Inc. is the inventor of the gLovies - Disposable Sanitary Hand Covers for children. We are in the business of helping kids keep their hands clean.

What inspired you start your business?

My business started from taking my two-year-old potty training toddler into a public restroom for the first time. My son managed to touch the floor, the stall door, the ladies sanitary box all in a matter of seconds. Then, as I was placing him on the public toilet seat his tiny little fingers were gripping the bottom of the seat for fear that he was going to fall into that deep hole. I was stressed out of my mind at the thought of all the germs that he was gathering on his hands. Yes, I’m a firm believer in washing hands “properly” with soap and water and we got the whole Happy Birthday song down, but holding a two-year old over a germy sink and touching all the fawcets etc. I thought to myself, there MUST be a better way.

How long has your business been in business?
The concept of gLovies began four years ago and our company was incorporated in 2006.

What did you do in your past work life?
I had plenty of business experience working for some top financial firms on Wall Street. I worked in various Marketing and Sales positions before becoming a founding partner of Lionheart Research, Inc.

What is your ideal workday like?
My ideal workday: I try not to get obsessed with the number of hours that I clock into the business. A great day is when I know I worked smart and efficiently and accomplished my top goals AND manage to have time left over to spend some quality time with my kids and husband.

my not-to-do list for 2009

December 30th, 2008 / 5 Comments » / by S. Elie

I picked up the January Real Simple magazine at the grocery store. I was drawn to the cover, Feel calmer now, make dinner faster, simplify your beauty routine, and the ultimate not-to-do list…

So I decided to create my own not-to-do list and encourage everyone to make one. This New Year is all about CHANGE and these are just a few things I’m doing.

I will not let myself be consumed by things I can not control.
I realize that I tend to stress about the “could be” instead of focusing on the now.

I will not dwell on those last few pounds of baby weight.
My son just turned one and to my amazement my last few pounds didn’t disappear on his birthday (sarcasm). Instead of focusing on the weight, I’m going to work on improving my overall fitness health.

I will do my best NOT to increase my carbon footprint.
I am hoping to find better ways, greener ways to do things throughout my every day life.

I am not going to freak out, stress, or cry about the economy.
This really goes under the “things I can not control”. Instead I will focus on ways to save money. I look forward to the challenge of becoming more frugal.

I will stop making to-do list that never get done.
I have the biggest habit of making impossible to accomplish to-do lists which only makes me upset and disappointed. Instead I will set realistic smaller goals that fit in a reasonable time line.

not a new year resolution, a life resolution- part 2

December 27th, 2008 / 1 Comment » / by S. Elie

This is part two of my life resolution which will cover both my online baby boutique business as well as my goals as a blogger.

Business Goals
As most of you know my goal is to transition into a WAHM role permanently eliminating the need to work for someone else. I have an online baby boutique that I am hoping will generate enough income to replace my current position. In order to do this I need to meet several milestones. My goal is to maintain a minimum sales volume of 10 sales per day. In order to do this I will need to increase my brand awareness through marketing and pr efforts. I will be adding new products once a month and will be launching a newsletter campaign by the end of January. Sign up for the newsletter to receive bi-monthly on steals and deals at LaLa Baby Boutique.

not a new year resolution, a life resolution- part 1

December 27th, 2008 / 5 Comments » / by S. Elie

Every year I make a New Year Resolution and every year, like most people, I completely ignore them. This year I’m not making a new years resolution, this year I’m making life change to help improve my way of life and my family’s way of life.

This year it is time for CHANGE. I’ve been reading along with Jessica’s 15 days of New Year Resolutions which gave me the idea of needing to have a plan for the New Year. But because I have so much going on, I’ve decided to divide up my goals into five areas: Wellness Goals, Money Saving Goals, Family Goals, Business Goals, and Professional Goals.

Wellness Goals
Following my wellness goals will probably be the most challenging. I manage to start everything but committing to them in the long run, well I always stop short.

wishing for a white christmas

December 24th, 2008 / 1 Comment » / by S. Elie

Merry ChristmasHappy Christmas Eve! We are in Las Vegas at the in-laws house. I’m wishing and hoping that it will snow while we are here.

White Christmas? Maybe?

It will be my first if it does.

We finished the last of our Christmas shopping today, talk about last minute right.

Now I am off to make some chocolate chip cookies with the little one. Performing a taste test between two different brands, I’ll let you know of the outcome.
