Are you trying to find new ways to boost traffic and improve your online store? I know I am. I’m always trying to find ways to increase brand awareness. Right now I’m in the middle of a site redesign and I can’t wait to unveil it. But design isn’t everything.
I found some great ideas from industry insiders on Practical E-commerce that may help your e-commerce company. We have already implemented some of them and saw immediate results.
Use Long Tail Phrases to Describe Products
Go beyond a single keyword and think about the phrases that consumers use to describe your products.
Work Together to Build Strong Links
If you are lucky enough to have a staff of employees then make sure the entire team understands what keywords and pages you are most interested in targeting so you can get the most out of your SEO linking strategy.
Diversify Online Marketing Tactics
You can just stop at the store, you need to find ways to find different ways to promote and advertise your products to ensure you reach the most customers. There are several social shopping sites available that can be used to help promote your store. Start a monthly newsletter or set up a Facebook fan page.
Put Your Best Image Forward
My personal pet peeve, bad design or images. Resist skimping on interface design and images, these things represent you and your brand.
Audit Search Queries Often
Review the actual key words a consumer uses to find your store and products often. Not only will this help you determine if you are paying for the wrong keywords, but it will also help you find the right keywords to purchase. You can easily check what keywords are most popular through Google Analytics.
Start Planning for the Holiday Season Now
To succeed during the holiday season you need to be prepared. Last year I had to cancel a lot of sales because many items ran out of stock. Try something new this season and incorporate wish lists and gift guides to your online store.

I’m onto the long tails and the search queries and should be better prepared this year for the holiday season as I only started last December so way too late! I’ve also been trying to test sales pages to see which ones convert the best. I’ve read simple changes of colour or movement of calls to action can make significant differences to conversion so I’m testing, testing, testing and will hopefully see some improvements.
Cheers, Chloe
