gearing up for the new year
December 3rd, 2008 / No Comments » / by S. Elie
A new year is fast approaching and it’s time to start thinking about where I want to go with my business ventures, life and wellness. So I decided to get the jump on the process by picking up a new book. No I haven’t even finished The New Rules of Marketing & PR but I hope to be finished by the end of the month. I actually didn’t just pick up this book, it’s been sitting on the shelf for about six months. However as I begin to develop my new plan I thought Get Clients Now!(TM): A 28-Day Marketing Program for Professionals, Consultants, and Coaches would be a great book to start with.
i heart gmail: why i made the switch from yahoo
December 3rd, 2008 / 1 Comment » / by S. Elie
I have been an avid yahoo mail user for years and I can prove it. The first account I created was lachelle22@yahoo.com, no I don’t use the account anymore so spammers have a go at it. I was 22 years old at the time, I know real encrypted right. This year I just celebrated my 3rd annual 30th birthday so there’s the proof.
I created several accounts throughout the years, whenever I started to get more spam mail then regular mail I knew it was time to retire the old account and create a new one.
Last year I succumbed to the peer pressure and decided to try Gmail. At first I hated it. I didn’t like the convenience of the grouped email. I was brain washed to the yahoo interface and couldn’t break out of it.
So I went back to yahoo again and created a new account and again it started to fill up with spam. I even got an email from a hit man who was hired to kill me, but he said he wouldn’t if I just gave him some money. Lucky I paid him off it’s probably the reason why I’m still alive today. But I still don’t know who hired him. I’m kidding of course; I knew it was a scam.
reading: the new rules of marketing and pr

I have always been fascinated with new media and new technologies but never had a chance to explore them in most of my positions. Often the companies I worked for were behind in the times and didn’t have the resources or equipment to utilize the latest technology.
Now that I have started blogging I have become more interested addicted to social networking. After participating in Jessica Knows 15 days I decided to pick up David Scott’s latest book, The New Rules of Marketing & PR. I bought it last week and plan to start reading it over the holiday weekend.
That is if twitter, facebook, and blogging don’t get in the way.
The funny thing is I majored in Public Relations in college, but things have drastically changed since then. I’ll let you know what I think of the book in a later post.
If you want to read it yourself, Amazon.com has The New Rules of Marketing & PR on sale for $11.53.

I use to hate getting grader in school and now here I am again, getting graded again. Hopefully the scores will be better than when I was in high school. I’m only posting these on my blog for reference. So in a couple of months I can come back and see if I improved. I have 2 websites so here is my report card.
BizzieMommy.com received a 89% on websitegrader.com
LaLaBabyBoutique.com received a 87% on websitegrader.com

Day 9 and Day 10 of 15 days of marketing
November 11th, 2008 / 2 Comments » / by S. Elie
I swear it seems like Jessica from jessicaknows.com is reading my mind. I was just thinking about adding a link to my portfolio/resume to my blog. I was just wondering how I can start a transition into freelance, and I really wanted to look into some more affiliate marketing programs. I actually have two affiliates on my site. momAgenda and tiny prints. I love the momAgenda collection and I’m already mentioning them and their products whenever I can.
Day 9 Homework Assignment: to explore different options for monetizing your blog or business.
Time is a commodity around here, sometimes it seems like I barely have time to breathe (hold on breathing). So I won’t be able to commit to much time to everything, so I’ll be concentrating my freelance efforts on writing & web design. My portfolio site is already live, www.seliecretaive.com I just need to update it.
I am already running some affiliate marketing campaigns and I’m also a member of the BlogHer Ad Network. I will have to look into selling text links, sounds like it may be a good fit as well. I only have a page rank of 2 on my site, so it would be interesting to find out their requirements. I’ll try www.linkxl.com and scratchback.com.
day 7 and Day 8 of 15 days of marketing

Well here I go again combining to days into one. I actually completed Day 7 on Day 7 but after finishing my apple martini I figured it was too dangerous to blog. We’ve all heard of drunken dialing, but drunken blogging can be much worse, especially if Google decides to spider your site, and then you have your crazy, illegible post is out there.
Day 7’s assignment was actually pretty fun, it was really cool to see how many people were linking to my blog, okay there wasn’t that many but I love Tumblr what a great way to create that press page. I created one for Bizzie Mommy and will be adding the Tumblr feed to my online baby boutique very soon. I signed up for Google Alerts so you can learn when your name shows up across the web. I never even heard of it but I singned up immediately.
Day 6 of 15 days of marketing

Today is all about Social Media Gurus and how and why they are relevant to me. To be honest I’ve been very interested in social marketing and pr and really wanted to learn more about it. Unfortunately working two jobs and taking care of two kids gives me little time for professional development.
However I am slowly trying to squeeze things in when I can.
This week’s assignment
To subscribe to a few social media marketing industry blogs, which I did just that. To my surprise I’ve actually heard of a couple of them. I even started following a couple of them on my twitter.

day 4-5 of 15 days of marketing
November 5th, 2008 / No Comments » / by S. Elie
I completely missed day four’s assignment due to being completely engulfed in the election process last night so now I have to play catch up. I am so happy about Obama becoming the 44th president. A little disappointed about a couple of the Propositions in California and here I thought I lived in a liberal state.
But I’ve had enough election talk to last at least 4 years so back to my 15 days of marketing.
Day 4
The assignment was to tweet, talk about your 3 favorite brands twitter, tagging them #15days. I think it was just for that one day, so it feels kind of silly doing that now. However I did realize that I need to follow more PR people on twitter. It’s funny really because I went to school for PR and now here I am trying to track down PR people. I went into web design after college and never had one job in PR. I’ll be looking around twitter for some new PR friends to follow.

day 3 of the 15 day marketing challenge
November 4th, 2008 / No Comments » / by S. Elie
This is probably going to be one of the most challenging homework assignments yet! I am one of those people that envision doing really cool and crazy things; I can even act them out in my head. But when it comes to actually performing them my confidence shrivels up and dies. Yes I can visually see that happening as well. I am one of those people that can imagine having a really awesome life in my head but in reality it’s a little boring, a little quirky and a bit goofy. I am trying though; I guess you could say I am a closet extrovert or something.
I’ve actually thought about vlogging for a couple of months, I even have my first post all planned out, yes in my head. I’m even about to buy the Flip Video camera to get things started. Until then I’m going to have to bow out of vlogging for the time being.
