the power of twittering moms, their flips, and youtube

November 17th, 2008 / 2 Comments » / by S. Elie

I never intended to write a “Motrin” post today. It never even crossed my mind, after all so many other moms blogged, vlogged, tweeted, youtubed their opinions about the Motrin ad, I figured I didn’t really need to. This post isn’t about my opinion. Yes I did think the ad was distasteful and insulted the very demographic they were seeking. Truth is I loved wearing both of my kids, I didn’t do it to “look cool” and it certainly didn’t make me feel like a “official mom.” Isn’t that what the minivan is for? (just joking, don’t send the hate mail just yet)

I wore my babies because they wanted to be held and I needed to get some work done around the house. Wearing my baby allowed me to spend quality time with him while I worked. It was easier for me to wear him when I went to the mall. The stroller was just a pain to get in and out of the car. Wearing my baby made it easier for me to tend to my older child when she needed me. It just made my life easier. Would I do it again? Sure, I still slip him in the sling when he’s felling a little clingy. Did I get back aches? Every now and then it depended on what I was using and how long I was wearing him. It was never bad enough to grab pain medication.

My Hubby and I took the kids with us to the polls this morning and voted. We were in line for about an hour. Now we just have to wait it out until this evening to see if our candidate wins.

on the eve of election day

Tomorrow is Election Day and it will probably go down in history as one of the most important and historical elections in history at least in my life time. My husband and I have been following the campaign very closely, watching the debates, reading about propositions and learning more about the key issues in the state and nation.

We recorded the debates so we could watch them without kids screaming in the background. We taught Bizzie Princess to tell parents at her school “Obama for President.” She can’t say it right though, she says “Obama o President!” Bu it’s close enough, right?

I am very nervous about this election and wondering what is going to happen once our new President is announced. This campaign has brought out the ugly in a lot of people.

the sad truth left in hot cars

August 25th, 2008 / 1 Comment » / by S. Elie

So I read a depressing article this morning on momlogic that chronicles the senseless deaths of 29 children who have died in from being in trapped in hot cars in the US alone. According to Janette Fennel, the founder and president of Kids and Cars, a national nonprofit group that advocates for child safety, roughly 36 infants and children die in these types of accidents annually.

While all of the listed incidents were sad, none were as shocking as an incident in Nevada where a 4 year-old, who had special needs, died when his family forgot him in a car after a family outing. He was left in the car for 17 hours. SEVENTEEN HOURS. The little boy had 7 siblings whom the family managed to remember. That is 9 people including the parents who forgot about a 4 year old for 17 hours. I just don’t get how that is possible. When it was time for dinner, nobody noticed he was missing. What about bedtime? Nobody noticed he wasn’t in bed. Call me suspicious, but how do 9 people completely forget about a 4 year old, a special needs 4 year old, which I imagine needed help getting out of the car, who probably needed some assistance during dinner and bedtime and nobody noticed he was gone! WOW!
