Sometiems us mom’s are way too easy on ourselves. What I mean by easy is we don’t demand from ourlselves what we probably very easily recommend to another sister friend. Well, I think you know where I’m headed. If we persist in putting ourself in the 5th seat from the back we’ll always feel like we’re second fiddle and if that happens we have no one to blame but oursleves. Below I’ve shared two tips that will help you make small shifts that will aid you in putting yourself in the front seat of your life:
Provoke Yourself – Be a little aggressive with yourself. Instead of feeling guilty and torn for even thinking about taking 10 minutes for yourself, demand of yourself what you’d most likely recommend to a good friend in a similar situation. Practice standing up to yourself.
Please yourself – Please yourself in small bites. Take a 5 or 10 minute break. Train your children to respect mommy time. Tell them this is mommy’s break time and that you get 10 uninterrupted minutes to do what you need to do. Eventually, possibly with some resistance, your family will learn to respect you for declaring yourself as valuable. Practice teaching respect.
The bottom line is staying motivated can be a real challenge, but us moms have to get in the front seat. Our kids won’t naturally identify us as having a life separate from them. So, that leaves the responsibility on each of our shoulders to create the kind of environment that shows our family that when mommy practices great self care the family gets the benefit of right quality results!
