get to work-walking

It was just this morning; my husband and I were talking about when we were going to start running again. And with a grunt

Me: Running, I don’t have time?

Hubby: But we should start back up

And so on and so on.

Then I get into the office and stumble on this article from the New York Times.

Work-walking imagine that. No more excuses, you can work and workout at the same time. According to the article companies like Humana, Mutual of Omaha, GlaxoSmithKline and Best Buy are buying these treadmill offices. About 335 Walkstations have been sold since last November. At $4,000 each, who makes the decision on who needs one?

Work-walking is growing in popularity, which means of course there is a couple of blogs about it. Check out these to Treadmill Desk (www.treadmill-desk.com) and Treadmill Workstation (treadmill-workstation.com). If there is a blog, then there must be a social network as well, right? Check it out Office Walkers (officewalkers.ning.com).

Ok, wow! I am assuming that these things are wisper quiet if they are actually gonna be ongoing in a work place. Its an interesting idea, but it seems a bit… distracting maybe. I don’t know. But yeah, its definitely one way to get your workout on while being busy at work =)

Not a bad idea. When I started my new job, I took a personality survey. The result: I’m too rushed and uptight! It turned out the rushing back and for from my computer to the office printer was seen as a negative! In my mind, why take slow steps when I can burn a few extra calories while getting paid?

Then I changed employers and my new office was much closer to the printer…I gained weight, then got a promotion and moved further from the printer. Now my co-workers want me to wear bells so they can hear me speeding around the corner.

Who needs a treadmill!

Wish they’d do this at my office. I’m sure I’ve gained most of my weight from sitting on my big butt for 7 hours a day.
