Mom Entrepreneur: Jill Exler
Business: Jexbo
Website: www.jexbo.com

This week’s interview is with Jill Exler of Jexbo which is a place where self-published authors can sell their books themselves, and where readers can find unique books.

What inspired you start your business?
I was looking for a place to sell a self-published book myself and couldn’t find one. It was like Goldilocks and the Three Bears – everything was “too something” or “not enough something” but nothing was just right until I created it myself.

How long have you been in business?
Since 2007

What did you do in your past work life?
I was a housewife and mother, before that I taught English as a second language in Germany.

Describe your ideal workday.
Every day I’m able to help authors and readers connect is ideal. A typical day for me is up at 6:30 to go through my emails, take my son to school at 8, come home and follow up on any emails that require my attention, run errands, pick my son up and spend some time with him, then back online to make sure everything is working smoothly on jexbo.

What have been some of your major successes?
Helping self-published authors sell their books to readers they would otherwise not have been able to reach.

What have been some of your major challenges?
Finding a web developer who will do the work I need done in a timely manner.

On those impossible days, what motivates you to keep going?
Great friends and family who think jexbo is a good idea and are always ready to pick me up when I feel down.

Do you have a motivational quote?
If other people can do it, so can you.

What is your balancing secret in managing a business and family?
I work ahead as much as possible and I never procrastinate. This means if anything unexpected pops up, from illness to an invitation for an afternoon out, I don’t have to worry about falling behind at work.

If there was one piece of advice you could give to your children about running a successful business, what would it be?
Keep a positive attitude and work hard.

Do you have a favorite business tool and/or resource?
Lately I’m addicted to Twitter.

What is your two cents sales pitch?
If you’re a self-published author looking to sell your book online, or a reader looking for something special, check out www.jexbo.com!
