final inches appointment rescheduled

by Stephanie Elie on March 29, 2009

So this weekend the hubs and I had our first date. Well our first date since our babysitter skipped town on us and had to start a career in Santa Barbara! She was nice enough to call and let us know she would be in town and would watch the kids for us on Saturday evening.

Of course we jumped on the opportunity.  So I decided to wear a dress that I bought a couple of weeks prior. I never tried it on, it was super sale so if it didn’t fit, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal.

So you can probably guess what happened next right? Well the dress wasn’t REALLY to small but with it on you see the little pouch my son left behind when he took up residence in my belly. Apparently when I evicted him he left a little baggage behind.

So needless to say, I didn’t wear the dress, the little pouch makes me SUPER self conscious. So I decided its time to get off my lazy ass and start working out again and eating right, again…

I also decided to make an appoint to Final Inches, they added a location near my house. I’m going just to get some insight on whether or not their procedure would even help me. The appointment is next month so stay tuned…

Sometimes, when all our doubts, fears and insecurities wrap ourselves up, we always come up with the idea of “I wish I was somebody else … at a young business entrepreneur and say “Wooh… what else could he ask for?” He stares at himself … mom and dad would still work things out.” Isn’t it funny? it’s my blog and i’ll party if i want to!

by Stephanie Elie on March 27, 2009

blogpartypost

So the 5MinutesfromMom.com ULTIMATE BLOG PARTY, is coming to an end. It’s been so much fun party hoping and meeting new bloggers. People I probably wouldn’t have found otherwise. I wanted to THANK EVERYONE that stopped by my blog and commented on come party with me! It’s the ultimate blog party!

A couple of things I learned during the party
1) It is next to impossible to get to every blog on the list but it was fun trying to.
2) There are all kinds of blogs out there about so many different topics
3) It’s okay to be yourself on your blog, I mean after all it’s your blog and if people don’t like what you have to say, they don’t have to read it.
4) It’s important to make a sincere effort to leave a comment that relates to the blog post or the blog itself.
5) There are a ton of bloggers out there and just because the party is over we should still try and visit other peoples blogs and comment

I really enjoyed the blog party and it has made me rethink the roller coaster direction my blog has been heading. I have come up with a new blog philosophy and new plan that I hope my readers will enjoy.

Some new things coming to BizzieMommy.com

muvee reveal a new way to display your digital photos

by Stephanie Elie on March 24, 2009

Are you a momarazzi? Do you take an endless amount of pictures and videos of your kids? Do you have a bunch of photos just sitting on your hard drive waiting to be seen and displayed?

Then this new video software, muvee Reveal is for you!

I am one of those moms. I’ve taken a ton of pictures of my kids but haven’t done anything with me. My plan was to make some great scrapbooks and I even bought a ton of supplies. Needless to say it’s all in a plastic bin in storage. I’ve learned that when it comes to creativity mine comes in a DIGITAL format.

So when I was invited to try out muvee Reveal I jumped on the opportunity.

What is muvee Reveal?
A simple way to make home movies in just minutes all on your home computer. Muvee Reveal takes your photos, video and music and automatically creates your own highly polished personal home movie.

The best part of the software is its simplicity, it only took a couple of minutes to select some pictures and then you select a style add some music and you have an instant movie. Yes, it is that simple. And you can do ALL of this in the comfort of your own home.

ease into self feeding with the play and learn spoon

by Stephanie Elie on March 24, 2009

humanspoonMy son has been speeding through milestones faster than I can set up road blocks. He challenges my baby proofing skills on a daily basis. Just when you think you have everything covered, he will surprise us with another talent. He started walking at 9 months and hasn’t stopped.

He quickly grew interest in feeding himself, often refusing to eat unless you hand over the spoon. We would, but the mess after was crazy. He couldn’t exactly get the angle right from bowl to mouth and food would wind up on him and the floor.

When I was offered a chance to try the Play and Learn Spoon from Human Spoon, I jumped on the opportunity.
The Play and Learn Spoon is designed to ease the transition from bottle feeding to spoon feeding all in an ergonomic fashion. Some of the benefits of the Play and Learn Spoon include a mouth guard to prevent gagging and a curved handle to align spoon to mouth. The spoon is double-sided so the child can use it for the left or right hand. Best of all they are BPA, phthalate and lead free.

When I first presented the spoon to Bizzie Boy, you could tell he was trying to figure out what it was. He puts EVERYTHING in his mouth so of course he tried that first. I let him play with the spoons around the house for the first couple of days and then introduced it to him as a spoon during dinner time.

I could immediately see a change in how he ate. He was able to better connect the spoon to the mouth without leaving so much food in his lap. This meant less cleaning for Mom & Dad.

I would recommend the Play and Learn Spoon by Human Spoon for children who are preparing for solid food and self feeding. My son was already over a year old when we started using them but I could imagine the benefits of presenting the spoons to younger children.

mompreneur interview: tsh oxenreider

by Stephanie Elie on March 24, 2009

Mompreneur: Tsh Oxenreider
Business: Simple Mom
Website: www.simplemom.net

Tsh Oxenreider  is the founder, writer, and editor of SimpleMom.net, a blog about life hacks for home managers.

What inspired you start your business?
I had been writing a personal family blog since 2005, but I was wanting a separate place to catalog my ideas for home management. So I started Simple Mom basically as a place for me to write out ideas for my own home – I process ideas by writing them down, so it was both a cathartic outlet and a practical tool in my own life. And somehow, other people started finding my ideas and implementing them in their homes. And the blog took off from there.

How long have you been in business?
The blog started mid-February 2008. So about a year old.

What did you do in your past work life?
Well, I have a BA in English and anthropology, so writing has always been in my blood. And we live overseas (for my husband’s work), so the anthropologist in me enjoys the challenge and blessing of living in another culture. I’ve been a freelance graphic designer for quite a few years, doing everything from wedding invitations to companies’ websites. But my first love has always been writing.

What is your ideal workday like?
Wake up at 6:00, work out, shower, and get ready for the day. Write, write, write until 8:00, when I have breakfast with the family. Play with my kids, read, and do something outside until lunch time. Then during my youngest child’s naptime, I open my email inbox for the first time. And since we’re talking ideal, when I open my inbox, it’s miraculously empty. Maybe write a tiny bit more after the kids are in bed post-dinner, but then spend the rest of the evening hanging and talking with my husband.

What have been some of your major successes?
Since the blog is just now a year old, it’s grown quite well. And I earn decent revenue from the site, so it’s definitely been worth the hours it takes to produce quality content.

What have been some of your major challenges?
Since I write about balanced and simple living, it’s been a challenge to live that out in my own life. But I’ve found I have to make it a priority, otherwise I have nothing to write about. I could fake it, but it would only last so long. So basically, I’ve learned to write, write well, network a tiny bit, but then step away from the computer. It’s more important than the billion other things I could do online.

On those impossible days, what motivates you to keep going?
My husband is a huge encourager, so on those days when the inbox is brimming over and I’ve got a lot on my plate, he keeps me sane. Having a spouse on board, I feel, is the number one essential tool to a successful blog.

Coffee’s also good. And good music. And a beautiful-smelling candle.

Do you have a motivational quote?
“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” -William Morris

“When you don’t know what to do, just do the thing in front of you.” -Elisabeth Elliot

What is your balancing secret in managing a business and family?
Walk away from the business, particularly when you work at home. Be all there when it’s your time with the kids. Close the laptop. Only check your email 2-3 times a day. Very rarely is anything so urgent in your inbox that your kids and spouse take a backseat.

If there was one piece of advice you could give to your children about running a successful business, what would it be?
A successful business doesn’t mean much if your family suffers. So for me, my blog isn’t successful if the kids are pulling at my skirt hem, if the house is a wreck, and if my husband misses me. Keep your priorities in order – your relationship with God, with your spouse, with yourself, with your kids, and with your community – and THEN your business. If it does well after that, only THEN is it a success.

Do you have a favorite business tool and/or resource?
Gmail saves my sanity. I also adore my MacBook. And I also make good use of pen and paper

What is next for your business?
I’m writing a book, so hopefully the blog will be a natural platform for presenting it to the world, once it’s published. It’s about simplifying and home management, so Simple Mom is a logical place.

Your two cents sales pitch?
I’m passionate about keeping things simple, so that’s reflected in my writing on Simple Mom. I care deeply about getting to the point and not using filler words, so I hope someone can come to the blog, glean some wisdom, separate the wheat from the chaff, and then close the laptop and get to work at home.
