What inspired you start your business?
We bought my Grandma’s home & all decided to remodel it to make her a main-level (no stairs) mother-in-law apartment to live in while giving us some room for our family to grow, also. The remodel turned out beautifully, but the contractor told us at the end (right after closing on a second mortgage to cover some of the debt) that our project had gone over $100,000 over budget & we were stuck with the bills left on our credit cards. Since I had recently given birth to our 3rd baby (3rd under 3 years old), I had to find some way to bring in money while staying at home to help get us out of our financial crisis. We’re still trying to work through our financial crisis to keep our home, which has gotten increasingly difficult as the whole nation is struggling financially also. However, our family is optimistic that things will turn around & we’ll be able to keep our house. Meanwhile, CreatedByMom.com may not only help our family is these trying times, but is also blessing all the other moms selling their products.

I use to hate getting grader in school and now here I am again, getting graded again. Hopefully the scores will be better than when I was in high school. I’m only posting these on my blog for reference. So in a couple of months I can come back and see if I improved. I have 2 websites so here is my report card.
BizzieMommy.com received a 89% on websitegrader.com
LaLaBabyBoutique.com received a 87% on websitegrader.com

My goals next week
October 31st, 2008 / No Comments » / by S. Elie
Today is Halloween and I’ve been a crazy disorganized disaster the last couple of weeks. I’ve made some shipping mistakes this past week with my store. I have broken every commitment I made to myself. I think I said I was going to start working out again a month or two ago. But I haven’t started yet. I am supposed to be blogging daily and look my last post was on Wednesday and that was a scheduled post so technically my last post was on Tuesday. I have been trying to update my store with some really cool products that I know every new mom can use. I know I could use some of them. And I still have to finish the design on my store blog and convert my store to a cheaper shopping cart. It’s crazy how much stuff I have on my to-do-list.
It’s not all my fault; I’ve been sick for like a month and am just now starting to feel better. I have two kids that love to hang out with me when I’m about to sit down at the computer.
choosing the best shopping cart for your store

Starting an online store can be challenging, from setting up the business, selecting the right shopping cart system and for most selecting the right developer to bring your vision to life.
I am lucky enough to have a background in web design and development so I don’t have to worry about having someone build the site for me.
However, choosing the right shopping cart is a daunting task. When I first built the store I didn’t want to spend a lot of time on the design so I bought a CRE Loaded template from templatemonster.com (my first mistake). I even hired a programmer to assist me with some minor details. I uploaded the products and then the site was live in a matter of weeks.
That is until I received my first order. It turns out the attributes weren’t saving so I was never able to determine what size or color, a customer wanted this required me to call every customer for every sell. It turns out the template I purchased was missing files (oops), we spent countless hours trying to resolve the issue, uploading new files, reinstalling the shopping cart, consulting with CRE loaded, nothing worked.
