two kids and an over stuffed condo

by Stephanie Elie on February 18, 2009

There is not a day that goes by that I loathe our condo. A place that I used to love and was so excited to purchase has been the bane of my existence for the past year. I hate going home. I just can’t keep the place clean. Toys always wind up in my living room or bedroom. Food always falls on the floor and the laundry is always piled over the basket. Life with two little ones in a small condo leaves a chaotic mess.

Every weekend I try to clean or reorganize but there just isn’t enough room for all of our stuff AND the kids stuff. Something has to go. It is time to DECLUTTER MY HOME! What a great title for a reality show.

The Hubs and I have been trying to move out of condo for over a year now, not because we had to sell but because we outgrew the space. Unfortunately when we outgrew the space the market took a nose dive. We couldn’t sell the condo at a decent price and our mortgage lenders wouldn’t do anything to help us. We were victims of “good credit” and helping people before they had “bad credit” isn’t how they wanted to play. However that is another blog post.

Today it’s all about DECLUTTER.

Not sure where to begin, I decided to do some searching online and found a great article by Leo Babauta on zenhabits.net be sure to check out his article and the others below.

Wish me luck.

Have you looked at http://Flylady.net? It is a totally free system (but you do get a whack of emails) that teaches you baby steps to maintaining order. I totally heart that woman!! :)

Oh my gosh! You sound just like me, I hate coming home, and try to organize, and clean all in vain! Well, if you figure it out, give me a holler, and I will try out anything that works. Also, good idea on the chairs on the floor!

Hi:

First of all, thanks for linking to my blog for freelance writers, WordCount!

Second, a while back, I was in your shoes, squeezed into a too small condo – in sunny southern California too! – with one husband, two small children and one big fish tank. The market was bad when we first tried to sell so we stuck it out for another year before putting it back on the market. The market was still bad after it sold, so we rented a house for two more years before buying. Not a day went by I didn”t wish to be in a home we could call our own. But we waited, and got our dream house – with plenty of room inside and out. So hang it there, things will get better. At least you”re live in a sunny area so you can get outside when you feel the walls closing in!

Great tips! I do hate clutter; no matter what else is going on in my life, if there is clutter around it seems to make everything seem disorganized! When we lived in a smaller house, I thought if I had more space I wouldn’t have the clutter issue but I was wrong. Even in a six bedroom house I still find things laying about and irritating me!
